Round Table on Improving International Ranking of Uzbekistan on Doing Business


More than forty representatives of ministries and agencies, international organizations and businesses of Uzbekistan will get together on January 30, 2014 in Tashkent to participate in the Round Table on improving Uzbekistan’s rating on Doing Business. The organizer of the Forum is the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Uzbekistan in partnership with the USAID’s Regional Economic Cooperation Project.
Uzbekistan stands at 189 in the ranking of 189 economies on trading across borders indicator of the World Bank and IFC Doing Business Project. The participants of the Round Table will discuss and analyze measures undertaken by the Uzbek Government on improving the country’s Doing Business ranking and will work out recommendations concerning the action plan on implementing these measures.
As it is known the World Bank and IFC launched The Doing Business Project in 2002. The Doing Business Project looks at domestic small and medium-size companies and measures the regulations applying to them through their life cycle across 189 economies and selected cities at the subnational and regional level. The Doing Business ranking is performed based on eleven indicators. In 2013 Uzbekistan improved its position in Doing Business ranking, moving from 156th rank to 146 th rank. The country improved its ranking in such indicators as starting a business (21st rank, + 66 positions), dealing with construction permits (159th rank, +1 position), registering property (136th rank, +6positions), getting credit (130th place, +24 positions), enforcing contracts (40th rank, + 2 positions) and resolving insolvency (63rd rank, + 8 positions). However, Uzbekistan worsened its ranking on such indicators asthe ease of getting electricity (173rd rank, -4 positions); protecting investors (138th rank, - 1 position) and paying taxes (168th rank, -3 positions).
