USAID hosts Horticultural Forum in Fergana


About 500 people participated in the “Horticulture Sector of Fergana Valley: Export Perspectives” Forum held in Fergana February 25-26, 2016. Organized through the USAID Regional Economic Cooperation Project (REC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan, the State Committee of Uzbekistan for Privatization, De-monopolization and Development of Competition, the Fergana Region Khokimiyat, GIZ, and OSCE, the event gathered farmers and exporters of the Fergana region, representatives of business associations, transport and logistics companies, retail chains from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and European Union,  the Fergana region Khokimiyat, Small Businesses’ and Private Entrepreneurship’s Export Promotion Fund, Specialized foreign trade company “Uztadbirkoreksport”, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan, and other stakeholders involved in facilitation of trade and export of horticultural products.  The Forum featured plenary sessions, roundtables, B2B meetings, horticultural trade fair, and field study visits to farms and transport and logistics hubs. During the field visits participants saw modern cooling and storing facilities. In the course of the Forum participants signed letters of intent and memoranda of cooperation to supply horticulture products from Uzbekistan to international markets totaling for more than $130 million.
