USAID supports cooperation of women-entrepreneurs in Central Asia

More than twenty women-entrepreneurs from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan gathered in Tashkent on April 17, 2015 to take part in the roundtable “Expansion of economic opportunities and cooperation of women-entrepreneurs in Central Asia”. The event was organized with the support of the USAID’s Regional Economic Cooperation Project.  Participants of the roundtable discussed gender equality and female empowerment issues, as well as development of women’s entrepreneurship and cooperation in the region.
As part of the roundtable the Association of Business Women of Uzbekistan and Business Association of Women-Entrepreneurs “ASIA” signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. The document was signed by Gulnora Mahmudova, Chairwoman of the Association of Business Women of Uzbekistan, Deputy of the Tashkent region Kengash, and Meruert Kazbekova, President of the Business Association of Women-Entrepreneurs “ASIA”, Mazhilis Deputy of the Parliament of Kazakhstan. The two associations agreed to share information, plan and organize joint events related to further development of women’s cooperation in the region, create expert groups for implementation of joint projects related to the development of women’s entrepreneurship, etc.
The partnership of the two associations is a follow-on activity of the Central Asia and Afghanistan Women’s Economic Symposium, held in Bishkek in 2011 , which launched regional initiatives seeking to build a network of women leaders who provide for boosting women’s economic participation through entrepreneurship.
